Four Essential Elements of a Tummy Tuck for a Flatter and Sculpted Body!

Surgical Procedures

Dr. Earl Stephenson

When it comes to a tummy tuck, there are four key elements that I evaluate to help my patients achieve their desired results for a slimmer waistline. Many individuals mistakenly believe that liposuction alone can address all aspects of creating a ‘snatched’ waistline. While liposuction can be effective for the right candidates, a tummy tuck tackles various conditions that may be preventing the abdomen from looking its best.

Let’s delve into each of the four elements that I assess to help you confidently rock that bathing suit, those cute jeans, and that little black dress!

Excess Fat

Stubborn pockets of fat are a common cause of a larger waistline. Liposuction can be performed as a standalone procedure or as part of a tummy tuck to remove unwanted fat cells. During the tummy tuck, fat is loosened and eliminated through a cannula inserted through the incision.

Excess Skin

Extra skin can create a sagging pouch that hides well-defined abdominal muscles. The amount of excess skin can vary, ranging from minimal to more significant cases known as an ‘apron’ or ‘muffin-top.’ In a tummy tuck, the surgeon re-drapes the skin to create smoother contours, removing the excess tissue. The incisions are typically placed low to be discreetly covered by swimwear or underwear.

Lax Muscles

Over time, the abdominal muscles and their surrounding fascia can become loose. This can result in a flabby appearance of the midsection. During a tummy tuck, the lax muscles are tightened and stitched together, creating a more toned and contoured abdomen.

Belly Button Placement

Depending on the specifics of the tummy tuck procedure, the position of the belly button may need to be adjusted. This involves creating an opening in the newly tightened abdominal skin to ensure that the belly button appears proportionate to the rest of the body. After completing all the necessary steps, the incisions are closed using special glue and dissolvable stitches. It’s important to note that each tummy tuck procedure is unique, as every patient has their own body shape, size, and personal goals. While there are similarities between surgeries, no two procedures will be exactly alike.

By addressing these four elements comprehensively, a tummy tuck can help you achieve a shapelier waistline tailored to your specific needs and desires. Schedule a consultation to learn more about how a customized tummy tuck can transform your silhouette!”
